Rilya the Opal Baroness
Rilya was raised by her uncle, who being quite blind was convinced that he had a ninny for a nephew as opposed to a tom boy for a niece. She was tutored in the sword and in armor from the time she was 10 and considered this the norm. When she was 15 and her uncle died she did not hesitate to take control of his estate. While it was not large it was enough to give her a taste of management and leadership. Her first action was to assign roles to the house servants based on skill, disregarding the common gender rules. When one of her maids turned footman was raped and murdered Rilya strapped on her armor and took her broadsword to the nearest gathering of men of ill repute. She cleaved the leg from the first man and began calmly asking who had raped her servant. She kept going until she got a name.
Her estate and a mysterious benefactor led to the protection of the women of her Opal Watch and her own desire for true equality has been the driving force of their political involvement. She does not necessarily have the patience for the political theater but that is not because she does not have the mind for it. She is a force to be reckoned with.
